As I sit at my kitchen table, in a slightly cooler than comfortable house, surrounded by the chores that need done; I am reminded of the things I have to be thankful for.
Since coming home from Nebraska’s Women’s Encounter the first weekend in March we have been hit left and right. Sickness, vehicle issues, appliance issues, and of course the normal crabbiness and occasional slips into old behavior. I mean as I am writing this our puppy is at the vet for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. As she has ingested things that left untreated could kill her.
At the beginning of the year this constant battle would have crushed me. I’m not saying that I haven’t struggled or thrown a small fit during all of this. However they don’t last as long as they used to.
What’s different this time? Well I found freedom while in Nebraska at Encounter. I was able to gain the heart knowledge for the head knowledge I have had for many years. It has made walking through the storm a lot easier. In James 1:2-3 it states “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of faith produces perseverance.” Without these trials there is no way that I could grow and relearn how to react in the Godly way! However James doesn’t stop there In verse 4 it says “Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete not lacking anything.
At first I was a little confused when I first read this verse. So I went to the Blue Letter Bible and began to dig deeper. What I learned is that perseverance means consistency, and steadfastness, or showing the characteristic of a man who isn’t not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings.
So for those of you who feel like all you can do is fight to keep your head above water take heart. This storm will not last for ever, and on the other side there is a beautiful rainbow waiting. That promise of a faithful God who always provides for His children. So keep praying and keep putting on your armor so that Satan can’t get to you. Ask people for prayer so that your back is covered! You got this, because God’s got you!
