Choosing Peace

Ever felt sick to your stomach, or maybe have a lump in your throat when you start to think about something? Well this isn’t your “gut” it’s discernment. This is the Holy Spirit warning you that something isn’t right and you should proceed with caution. Some times this warning can be easy to listen to and other times it can be hard.

Why Stacie are you even talking about this? Well because this week has been a hard one for me. I won’t be going into a lot of detail just because it is a sensitive situation and I want to respect others involved. However let’s dive into what I can and am willing to say.

Choosing to protect your peace is a healthy choice. I’m not talking choosing to make a choice that keeps the peace between 2 people (although that could be the case as well) I am talking that peace that surpasses all understanding that is talked about in Philippians 4:7. However I want to look at Philippians 4:5-9

Let your reasonableness(gentleness)[a] be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned[b] and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

Paul tells us not to be anxious about anything but to pray about it instead. Why? What could prayer possibly do? Well it allows you to talk with your Father. The personal relationship you have with someone can often be like medicine to your life/soul. So why would a relationship with your Heavenly Father be any different? When you talk to Him he can give you advice (you know how a good parent would) to help.

When we strive to think like Christ then we get peace, not from doing what others want or saving face, but from knowing that we are making the choice that glorifies God. This should be our goal, so show God’s love and give Him glory in all that we do. This means that sometimes the Holy Spirit will stop you from speaking or will change what you were going to say to that person. Trust me knowing that you are following the lead of the Holy Spirit (the helper God gave us John 14) will bring you peace. Yes you will have peace even when it is hard and it hurts.

So train yourself to pray first, strive to think about the things that glorify God, because in the end it will bring you the peace that surpasses all understanding. God will protect your heart and mind all you have to do is trust Him to fight your battles!

I will be standing in prayer for you my friends! Trust God to work it all out and just do as He leads! Go forth and glorify our good good Father!

Much Love Stacie
